The Legendary Tale of the Tenacious
Tenacious is no ordinary vessel. Built in 61, this iconic 1972-foot Sparkman & Stephens sailing yacht was a winner from her very first race. The history of this masterpiece of sailing technology and design is intertwined with the names of legendary sailors, grand races, and epic voyages around the world.
An Unbeatable Competition Career
From the beginning, Tenacious was known as a racing champion. One of her most famous owners was Ted Turner, the legendary American entrepreneur and sailor. Under Turner's leadership, the ship won the prestigious and infamous 1979 Fastnet Race, despite stormy conditions that made it one of the toughest ever. The ship also won other notable victories, including the Miami-Nassau Race, the Cowes Week Series and the Bermuda Race.

A World Traveler under Warren Bruin
Around 1982, the Dora IV was sold to Warren Bruin, a well-known Bermudian sailor. He renamed the ship War Baby. Under his stewardship, the ship continued to excel in competitive sailing, participating in the Antigua Sailing Week, the Bermuda Race and numerous regattas in the Mediterranean.
But *War Baby* became more than a racing yacht. Bruin undertook some of the most adventurous voyages ever made by a sailing ship. He sailed to remote and challenging destinations such as Spitsbergen, Antarctica, Greenland and Easter Island. It is estimated that the ship sailed more than 200.000 nautical miles under his stewardship – a testament to her reliability and seaworthiness.
Restoration A New Life
Since 2005, the Tenacious has been on the quay at Stofberg en Zn. in Enkhuizen, where she has undergone an extensive restoration. Crucial structural elements, including skin parts, frames, stringers and frames, have been replaced with the help of renowned experts such as Sparkman & Stephens USA, Kees Kaptein and Ben Korner Jachtarchitecten. This restoration was carried out with one goal: to restore the ship to her original glory, ready to conquer the world once again.
In addition, part of the interior has been renovated with high-quality materials, whereby the authentic appearance of the ship has been carefully preserved. This offers the future owner the opportunity to shape the finish according to his own wishes.
A Beautiful History
The Dora IV, later known as Tenacious and War Baby, is more than a ship – she is a floating legend. Her legacy is even immortalized in a scale model proudly displayed at the prestigious New York Yacht Club (NYYC).
The Chance of a Lifetime
The Tenacious now awaits a new owner who will appreciate her rich history and make her future as glorious as her past. This is a unique opportunity to own a true piece of sailing history and become part of her story.
