Gib Sea 37 Ketch – “Philou” (1976)
The Gib Sea 37 Ketch “Philou” is a classic and seaworthy cruising yacht designed by Michel Joubert. This solidly built polyester sailing yacht is known for its reliable sailing characteristics, comfortable cockpit and practical Ketch rigging. Thanks to the distribution of the sail plan, the ship is easy to trim and pleasant to sail, even with a small crew.
With a length of 11.70 m and a width of 3.80 m the Philou offers a spacious and functional interior. The ship features two cabins and 5 fixed berths (maximum 7) and a headroom of approximately 1.80 m in the salon. The kitchen was modernized in 2017 and the interior received an earlier upgrade in 2002. Heating via a Eberspächer D4 makes staying on board comfortable even in the early and late season.
The Yanmar 4JH3 diesel engine (2002) delivers approximately 40 hp and has approximately 1650 operating hours. Major engine maintenance was carried out in 2021. In the same year, new Ullman Navigator Dacron sails were installed (mainsail, mizzen, and genoa). The rigging is from 2022 checked. Navigation equipment includes Raymarine instruments (depth, wind, and autopilot) and a Furuno GPS.
The Philou has a beautiful history; the ship has remained within the same family since the mid-90s and was transferred from father to son in 2021. In recent decades, the ship made several voyages across the North Sea to Belgium, France, and England and was recently used on the Grevelingen and OosterscheldeThis underscores the seaworthy reputation of this type of ship.
Points of attention
As befits a classic ship of this age, there are also some points that require attention. These include the deck, window seals and the propeller shaft seal things that require maintenance. In addition, there are some cosmetic issues such as wear and tear on the deck and gelcoat.
